The upcoming Free Changeable Art Exhibition features four artists exhibiting a range of paintings that invite you to go beyond the ordinary. The paintings speak to you from the artists inspiration captured from memory, nature, culture and life experience.
Barry Lester Johnson lives in Newcastle and held his first solo exhibition in Newcastle Art space in 2007. In 2010 Barry’s paintings were selected at Art Unlimited Dunedoo for exhibition at Fairview Art space in Mudgee. Barry uses colour-mixing techniques to intensify colours and to create lively greys. This exhibition includes abstract landscapes from memory or imagination.
Laxmi Duble’ was born in Goa, India and blends inspiration, imagination and creativity on canvas. At an early age Laxmi was inspired by nature and whitewashed Portuguese chapels. Having spent 5 years in Paris, Laxmi continues to be inspired by a range of impressionists with abstraction being a great driving force in her work.
Lisa Woolfe exhibits paintings from a series of paintings, drawings and prints based on photographs snapped from her car window during road trips around country NSW and places familiar to her. Lisa captures flashes of the landscape to create paintings constructed from visual and reference memory prompting the viewer to consider what lies ahead or beyond, preferring the location to be anywhere the viewer wants to imagine.
Lisa has been a finalist in numerous group exhibitions from 2001-2011, winning the 2008 Works on Paper Award Waverly Art Prize. Lisa has a Bachelor in Fine Arts and is an experienced educator and gallery assistant.
Mary Rafter from an early age loved expressing her creativity through painting. Mary creates abstract paintings drawing inspiration from the world around her, living by the sea and aerial photography of the earth. Using many colours and textures Mary encourages the viewer to explore visually and kinesthetically enticing viewers to touch the painting in order to further understand it.
This exhibition will be an uplifting experience not to be missed.

Colour is what inspires the work of 5 contemporary artists in the upcoming exhibition at Changeable Art. Each artist uses bold uninhibited brushstrokes to creative vibrant expressions.
Sally was a scientist in her first career working in medical research to find a cure for childhood cancer; exploring nature in an effort to reduce harm. Now Sally is continuing to look at nature using art. ‘ How far can form and colour be altered and still be recognized as landscape.’
Christine works mainly with lines keeping her work uncluttered but directional.
Antonio explores abstraction through varying forms and styles, subtle textures and colour to achieve a harmonised effect.

Susan - works are derived from a wide range of subjects, both abstract and objective. She has a sense of experimental play, which is reflected, in her art
Influences range from Asian styles, French Fauve painters to back yard gardens. The key is the imagination and the artist’s ability to create warmth and emotion in their work.
This exhibition creates a zestful atmosphere through the lively tones. An uplifting experience not to be missed.

Jai’s bright colourful works explore his Indian heritage, representing deities and subconscious thought patterns reached through meditation.

Lesley’s works use animation to tell a story though naïve images that appeal to all ages.

The Melting Pot

‘The Melting Pot’ is a display of the richness of culture and artistic flare.
The exhibition includes the works of five Turkish artists, a tribal jewellery designer, a wood sculptor and three abstract artists.
Award winning Turkish miniature artist Gulay Pelin is recognised as one of Australia’s distinct miniature artists. Her unique and contemporary art charmingly bridges Turkish miniature from past to present. She is sharing her space with four Turkish artists capturing a rich cultural essence in their paintings. Their display includes Turkish food and music providing an authentic experience.
The Jeweller - Tribal beads, semi precious stones, rare ancient faenza Mummy Beads, antique trade beads and hand crafted pieces. All sourced from Europe, the Middle East and India, from Afghani and West African traders in black Harlem and Soho New York, they find their way into the necklaces of local artist Ellie Picone.
The Sculptor –In two years, Italian Maurizio Nannetti, has gone from a high-powered career running his IT company to a full-time, exhibiting artist, crafting wood into exquisite art pieces.
The Painters - Sandy, Toni and Daphne are three friends, their art is inspired by the landscapes they visit. Turkey and Greece influenced Sandy this year and next year it will be India. All three artists express the form of urban and country landscapes in colour, taking the object beyond illustration to an expression of abstraction.

Open Day - Express Yourself Student Exhibition

The North Sydney Community Centre is opening its doors once again for our biannual Open Day & Student Exhibition.
Express Yourself, displays a collection of over 60 student works featuring photography, life drawing, acrylics, pastels and pottery.
A huge selection of free activities are on offer: learn to draw with our outdoor sketching teacher, paint a canvas or be part of creating a ceramic city, learn the Ukulele, have a go at Furoshiki – Japanese paper wrapping, or sit in the park and play a game of Mahjong.

Art as Memory
Art is used to freeze moments in time so we can appreciate them forever. This may be through a realistic image or an interpretation capturing the ambience of the moment.
‘Art As Memory’ is an exhibition where 4 artists explore their creativity though painting, drawing and photographs capturing different memories.
The exhibition showcases Chinese brush painting and calligraphy exploring the spiritual through an integration of Eastern forms and western sensibility.
Photos are inspired by flowers, warm Summer days, water, sand and landscapes capturing these single frame moments, which throw us, back to warm days in the sun.
Energetic paintings capture burlesque dancers, drawing inspiration from the genre of retro pin up art
